ABOUT MY TRAINING WITH BASI PILATES
I am comprehensively certified through BASI Pilates, an internationally respected training school founded by Rael Isacowitz in 1989, with headquarters in California and training centres worldwide.
BASI is known for its rigorous, system-based methodology, developing teachers who work with precision and depth. Its comprehensive training program involves over 500 hours of training and teaching, in addition to written papers and numerous exams.
Prior to the comprehensive program, I attained my mat certification first — also through BASI.
A fully integrated system
A key distinction in comprehensive training is that the full Pilates method is taught as one integrated system from the outset.
Matwork and apparatus, including Reformer, Cadillac or Tower, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Ped-a-Pul, F2 System (in BASI’s case) and more, are studied together, with a focus on how movement patterns connect and progress across the system.
This differs from modular training schools, where apparatus is taught separately rather than as one cohesive whole.
The BASI Block System
I teach using the BASI Block System, which organises the Pilates repertoire into movement-based categories known as ‘blocks’. This creates a clear structure for building balanced, full-body sessions that work through all planes of motion, with a clear pathway for progression, while still allowing flexibility within that framework.
Exercises are selected and adapted in response to the individual, rather than followed in a fixed sequence. This means the teacher can respond to how your body presents on the day, while maintaining a sense of progression and continuity over time.
Continuing education
I have also completed the ‘Pilates for Injuries and Pathologies’ course through BASI Pilates, led by physiotherapist and faculty staff member Samantha Wood.
This training supports my work with clients managing pain, injury, or more complex movement needs, and strengthens my ability to adapt the work safely and effectively.
How this shapes your experience
For you as the client, this means experiencing Pilates as a system that is both structured and responsive, within a flexible, individualised setting.
Each session is shaped around how your body presents on the day, while still following a clear direction for progression. You’re not working through a set routine, but developing movement in a way that is specific to you. Over time, this supports efficient movement, greater control, and a deeper understanding of your body that carries into everyday life.
Why this matters
The BASI approach combines structure, depth and adaptability. It provides a clear framework for progression while still allowing space for real-time observation and adjustment.
This is what underpins my teaching. Every 1:1 session is shaped by both the system and the individual. For clients, this creates a training environment that is precise and responsive, while supporting consistent, meaningful progress over time.
